Navigating Systems. Securing Safety. Reclaiming Power.
BAKO Sanctuary walks alongside Sub-Saharan African families in Bedford, Luton, and surrounding areas facing immigration challenges, domestic violence, and systemic exclusion. Led by lived experience, we provide peer support, system navigation, and empowerment - helping you understand your rights and access the support you deserve.
At Bako Sanctuary C.I.C., we support vulnerable and under-represented families and individuals —particularly migrants facing domestic violence, immigration challenges, safeguarding concerns, or substance use issues.
We create safe, peer-led spaces where people feel truly understood, heal from trauma, and rebuild their strength. Through our eight pillars of support (including peer connection, education, holistic guidance, and more), we help families navigate complex systems, access the right services, and move toward lasting stability, wellbeing, and belonging.
The Vision
Empathy at the Heart of Community Wellbeing
At Bako Sanctuary, we believe true community wellbeing begins with empathy. We are a social enterprise dedicated entirely to the community we serve—reinvesting every resource to support, educate, and empower.
Our mission is to create a nurturing environment where every Black African individual and family in the UK feels deeply valued, understood, and connected, especially those facing complex challenges like immigration insecurity, domestic abuse, economic exclusion, and systemic barriers.
Our work is focused on supporting Black African families and individuals in the UK, particularly those from Sub-Saharan African heritage, who face intersecting challenges including:
- Domestic violence and immigration-related coercive control
- No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), destitution, or insecure immigration status
- Economic exclusion due to unrecognised overseas qualifications
- Limited access to regulated immigration advice
- Systemic barriers impacting children and young people
